We’ve got all the information you could need here – whether this is your first time going or you’re a seasoned veteran, look no further.
First off it’s worthwhile to note that Dubai is a stunning, modern city that is sure to knock your socks off.
Second, buckle up and let us help you get the most out of your time in this gorgeous country.
THE BASICS
Dubai is a city within United Arab Emirates that has risen from a fishing village to be a sought-after luxury tourist destination, with an average of 15 million visitors each year. As a bonus, between October 2021 and April 2022, the Dubai Expo is on including lots of special events and expositions creating a once in a lifetime experience.
February is an ideal month to visit as well, due to it being a balmy 25 degrees, which is just right to dine outdoors and go swimming but not so hot that you sweat immediately upon walking out your front door.
UAE is a predominately Muslim country, so keep in mind that it’ll serve you to be respectful of local beliefs and customs. The biggest ones are to be mindful of dressing modestly, asking permission before taking peoples photos, not swearing (also on WhatsApp!), keeping all affectionate touching private. A lot of tourist places, like hotels or yacht cruises, are far more westernized but it’s always a good idea to follow the local guidelines to ensure a fun, enjoyable, and problem-free stay.
WHAT TO DO?
Dubai has loads of fun things to do; and you should definitely add The Dubai Mall to your list! Featuring over 200 luxury stores, as well as dining and entertainment, it’s a great pace to snag a new toy or simply take in the culture.
Another key point is the Burj Khalifa – otherwise known as the tallest building in the world. Featuring 3 separate observation decks with 360degree views. Conveniently located on the edge of the mall, you won’t even have to go outside to see the best view of Dubai.
If you can dream it, you can do it in Dubai. From diving to jetskis to driving SUV’s on sand dunes the options are endless. Popular attractions are yacht rides around the Palm and World Islands, driving supercars, or getting a taste of local culture with a trip to the desert.
WHERE TO STAY
A big bonus of being part of the AW Convention is sweet hotel discounts!
With all of them being walking distance to the convention center (or taxi if you fancy) you’re situated right in the heart of the city. Each hotel has its own swanky rooms, restaurants, fitness centers, and phenomenal city views.
COVID
Dubai has a good track record of handling infection rates and has steadily reported small numbers, so it’s a safe space to be. Due to current Covid-19 regulations, in order to enter the country you will need a negative PCR test taken no longer than 72 hours before your arrival in the country. This could change, as everything does so quickly these days, so do check back to see if this is no longer needed!
Some travelers may also need to take a quick test upon arrival if they are exhibiting symptoms.
SIM CARDS
For a usable cell-phone during you stay, it is easy to pick up a SIM card at the airport upon your arrival. In fact, Dubai has made it even easier by offering tourists free sim cards at passport control for their stay with 20mb. If that’s not enough juice for you, you can find stores in Terminals 1, 2, & 3 (du and Etisalat) where you can purchase your own plan, which are generally broken down by how many days you need.
WiFi is also fast and easy to find in all public spaces, so there is a chance you won’t even burn through those 20mbs!
NIGHTLIFE
Let’s be honest, we all look forward to the parties at conventions, and Dubai is a top choice for a good after party. Most of the upscale clubs and bars enforce dress codes, so come prepared with something fashionable – or shell out for a new fit while you’re there. Another big benefit of AW is all the amazing after-parties hosted by networks and affiliates. With most clubs closing at 3AM; there is plenty of time to network and dance your evening away.
If you’re a foodie, Dubai also boasts a large number of Michelin star chefs and just this year alone opened multiple new 4 and 5-star restaurants. With a wide range of influences, you can find local cuisine along with an incredible range of fusion blends.

- Pack of cigarettes €5,50
